Travelling with our two monkeys, a trip to the Monkey Haven primate rescue centre on the Isle of Wight seemed appropriate. Not only did we get to support a good cause, but the kids also got to learn more about the animals, why they are there, and how they are cared for by the staff and volunteers.

Monkey Haven is a sanctuary for monkeys and other wildlife, located on the beautiful Isle of Wight in the UK. It is a perfect family activity that combines education and fun. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by the friendly staff who provided us with a map and some information about the different animals and exhibits.

Exploring Monkey Haven

Monkey Haven offers a variety of exhibits and activities for visitors of all ages. One of the highlights is the primate rescue centre, where you can see a wide range of monkeys and learn about their individual stories. From cheeky capuchins to adorable marmosets, there is no shortage of fascinating primates to observe.

In addition to the monkeys, Monkey Haven is also home to a variety of other animals. We had the chance to see beautiful owls up close and watch them fly during the daily owl display. The kids were thrilled to see these majestic birds in action. We also explored the reptile house, where we encountered snakes, lizards, and turtles. It was a great opportunity for the kids to learn about different reptile species and their habitats.

Learning and Conservation

Monkey Haven is not just a place for entertainment; it is also dedicated to education and conservation. Throughout the park, there are informative signs and displays that provide insights into the animals' natural habitats, behaviors, and conservation efforts. The staff and volunteers are knowledgeable and passionate about their work, and they are always happy to answer any questions visitors may have.

As part of our visit, we attended a talk about the importance of wildlife rescue and the challenges faced by these animals in the wild. It was eye-opening to learn about the various reasons why animals end up in rescue centers and the valuable work being done to rehabilitate and release them back into their natural habitats.

Fun for the Whole Family

Monkey Haven offers more than just animal exhibits. There is a playground where the kids can burn off some energy, and a café where we enjoyed a delicious lunch. The café offers a variety of options, including vegetarian and vegan choices, so there is something for everyone. We also visited the gift shop, which is filled with unique items and souvenirs. It was the perfect place to pick up a memento of our visit and support the sanctuary's work at the same time.

The park is well-maintained and accessible, making it easy to navigate with a stroller or wheelchair. There are plenty of benches and picnic areas throughout the park, so you can take a break and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Monkey Haven truly caters to families and ensures that everyone has a memorable experience.

Supporting a Good Cause

One of the things that impressed us most about Monkey Haven is their commitment to animal welfare and conservation. The sanctuary is involved in various conservation projects and works closely with other organizations to protect endangered species. By visiting Monkey Haven, we not only had a fantastic day out but also contributed to the important work being done to save and protect animals.

Overall, our trip to Monkey Haven on the Isle of Wight was a memorable experience. We had the opportunity to see incredible animals up close, learn about their stories, and support a worthy cause. It is a must-visit destination for families looking for a fun and educational day out. We can't wait to go back and see what new exhibits and activities they have in store.
