A Trip to Loch Ness and Inverness

A weekend trip to Inverness and Urquhart Castle on the banks of Loch Ness is a perfect adventure for those seeking a taste of Scottish folklore and stunning natural beauty.

The journey began with a drive from Aberdeen, where we had set up base for a few months. Despite the relatively short distance of 104 miles (167km), it took us over 3.5 hours to reach Inverness. This was due to the numerous tractors we encountered on the road, causing delays and requiring us to drive at a slower pace. So, if you plan on driving in the UK, be prepared for lots of tractors during harvest season and drivers who go well below the speed limit.

Once we arrived in Inverness, we couldn't wait to start our exploration. Our first stop was the famous Loch Ness, known for its mythical creature, the Loch Ness Monster, affectionately referred to as "Nessie". We were determined to catch a glimpse of this legendary creature, so we embarked on a boat tour that promised an up-close encounter with Nessie.

As we sailed across the calm waters of Loch Ness, the breathtaking beauty of the surrounding landscape captivated us. The lake stretched out before us, its deep blue hues reflecting the clear sky above. The mountains that framed the lake added a touch of grandeur to the scene, making it a truly picturesque sight.
