A friend of ours, Mark, who used to live nearby in Australia, recommended Barafundle Bay to us. Intrigued by his description, we decided to check it out during our trip to Wales. Located in Pembrokeshire, Wales, this hidden gem is a picturesque beach nestled between two small cliffs. Managed by the English National Trust, it is part of an old estate that adds to its charm.
One of the unique aspects of Barafundle Bay is that it is only accessible by foot. The nearest parking area is at Stackpole Quay, which is approximately 800 meters away. As we made our way towards the beach, we couldn't help but appreciate the beautiful coastal walk that led us there. The path was well-maintained and offered stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
Upon reaching Barafundle Bay, we were immediately captivated by its natural beauty. The beach itself was pristine, with soft golden sand and crystal clear turquoise waters. The absence of any commercial development or crowds added to its allure. It felt like we had stumbled upon a secluded paradise.
We spent a couple of hours exploring the beach and surrounding area taking in the scenery. The calm and tranquil atmosphere made it the perfect place to relax and unwind. We didn't set up our beach towels as it was too cold to sit and relax, we kept active to stay warm and enjoyed the peaceful sound of the waves crashing against the shore.
For those looking to explore further, there are several walking trails that offer stunning views of the surrounding area. We decided to venture along the coastal path, which took us to nearby cliffs and provided panoramic vistas of the coastline. The rugged cliffs, combined with the vibrant blue sea, created a truly mesmerizing sight.
As we walked along the path, we couldn't help but appreciate the untouched beauty of Barafundle Bay. The absence of any commercialization or tourist facilities made it feel like a hidden paradise. It was a refreshing change from the bustling beaches we had visited before.
After a day of exploring, we made our way back to Stackpole Quay to grab a bite to eat at the cafe. The cafe offered a range of delicious options, from freshly caught seafood to homemade cakes. We sat outside, enjoying our meal even though it wasn't the warmest of days.
Overall, our visit to Barafundle Bay was a truly memorable experience. The untouched beauty of the beach, coupled with the peaceful atmosphere, made it a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We highly recommend adding Barafundle Bay to your list of must-visit destinations in Wales. Whether you're looking for a relaxing day at the beach or an adventure along the coastal path, Barafundle Bay has something to offer everyone but, visiting in summer would be best given how cold it gets at other times of the year.
